About UsScott Kenerson is the primary luthier of SMK Music Works. From building his first guitar in high school, to being a wood model maker for the auto industry for over 15 years, Scott has taken that experience and created SMK Music Works. Scott has been building and repairing stringed instruments for over 10 years now. During this time, some of his other guitar related work has included being one of the guitar techs for The Lionel Richie Band and others. SMK Music Works guitars can be seen and played at Motor City Guitar, Waterford MI. Coming soon, SMK guitars will be available at other local Detroit area music stores. They can also be seen at the SMK shop by appointment. Many SMK guitars can be seen "live" at many Michigan venues in the hands of talented musicians. When Scott gigs, he plays SMK instruments exclusively. SMK Custom instruments are built from the finest materials available. Scott hand selects the woods himself. This allows him to personally grade the look, sound, and weight of each piece of wood he selects. This provides the best look and tone SMK can achieve in an instrument. Every procedure used to build our instruments is done by hand. From carving tops by hand to routing the body cavities and fitting every joint. This allows the customer to choose any combination of woods and hardware at no additional up charge. Large companies charge custom shop prices when you change one little item on their models. Since SMK hand builds every instrument it is no extra work to use the specific items you choose. When we build a guitar to your specifications, you save on this up charge. This is one of the biggest advantages of having a guitar custom built. Also, if you have a neck size you like the best, we can duplicate that neck profile on your new guitar. This provides a familiar and comfortable feel. SMK has done this for numerous customers over the years and they just love it. SMK offers most makes and models of popular pickups and hardware.
